Child abuse and neglect are of growing concern in international schools throughout the world. Abuse and neglect are violations of a child’s human rights and are obstacles to a child’s education as well as to their physical, emotional, and social development. Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) has developed a comprehensive Child Safeguarding model. The model includes updated policy, reporting procedures, documentation and training for the entire JIS community. International schools have an institutional responsibility to protect children. In this role we need to ensure that all children in our care are afforded a safe and secure environment in which to grow and develop, no matter what cultural background they come from.
